First Filipino-Canadian Appointed to Canadian Supreme Court

Steve Anthony Coroza became the first Filipino to get appointed to the Supreme Court of Justice of Ontario. The appointment will be effective from July 8 after the formal announcement by Canadian Department of Justice on May 29. Ambassador of Philippine to Canada welcomes the move and said that it highlights the presence of Filipino in the multi-cultured society of Canada. There is a need for younger generation to take inspiration from Steve, he added.

Canadian law firm Welch Bussieres gets partnered with leading French law firm, DS Avocates to become DS Welch Bussieres. It is first time that a law firm of international stature of DS is starting business in Quebec. DS Avocates has offices in Paris, Lyon, Bordeaux, Lille and on Reunion Island in France. The law company also has presence in six Asian locations, that include 3 offices in China, two in Vietnam and on in Singapore.

Bill Proposed by Indo-Canadian MP Set to Become Law

A bill prposed by an Indo-Canadian member of the Parliament of Canada is all set to become a law. Paramjit Gill, an Indo-Canada, Conservative MP had proposed to make entry of youths in criminal gangs a crime gained support from the justice minister. New law will ensure tougher penalties on criminal groups trying to recruit youths. New law will be enacted before the summer breaks of parliament on June 21.
